National Youth Violence Prevention Week April 3-7
PAX / Real Solutions to Gun Violence is again partnering with organizations across the country to support National Youth Violence Prevention Week on April 3-7. National Youth Violence Prevention Week is dedicated to helping students, teachers, parents and administrators raise awareness of the urgent need to keep our schools free from violence by placing the issue at the forefront of our national agenda.
Through its lifesaving 1-866-SPEAK-UP hotline and education kit, PAX has been at the forefront of the school safety movement since the launch of the SPEAK UP campaign in 2002 after a government study found that in 81 percent of school shootings the attackers tell someone about their plans beforehand.
What You Can Do:
1. If someone you know makes a weapon-related threat, speak up! Tell a teacher or other trusted adult, or call 1-866-SPEAK-UP.
2. Tell other students about 1-866-SPEAK-UP and encourage them to call when they hear of a weapon-related threat. Use the Violence Prevention Week Student Guide for more ideas and useful tools.
3. Participate in National Youth Violence Prevention Week. Violence Prevention Week is a great opportunity to involve your school and community in SPEAK UP.

The N Wins Beacon Award For Partnership With PAX; Degrassi Season 3 Box Set Released Tuesday
PAX / Real Solutions to Gun Violence is proud to announce that our partner, The N, has received a Beacon Award for a Public Service Announcement it produced and aired featuring the 1-866-SPEAK-UP hotline after an episode of its hit show, "Degrassi: The Next Generation."
The award, in the "Community; Video Promotion or PSA; Cable Network II" category, was one of 11 for MTV Networks, which has been one of PAX's biggest supporters through the years.
Winners were presented Tuesday night at the JW Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C.
The Beacon Awards honor excellence in public affairs throughout the cable industry, recognizing achievements in the areas of public relations, community outreach, customer service, education and government affairs.
Look for the Degrassi Season 3 box set on Tuesday and the Season 4 DVD, featuring the school shooting episodes that inspired the PSA, later this year.
