ASK Day 2006 is set for Wednesday, June 21

National ASK Day is the national day of focus on the lifesaving message of the ASK (Asking Saves Kids) campaign. ASK Day takes place on June 21, the first day of summer, a time of year when children play more often in other homes.

Parents ask all sorts of questions to protect their children when they go play at the home of a friend, neighbor or relative. But there is one important question that more than half of parents say it never even occurred to them to ask: "Is there a gun where my child plays?"

Ramona, CA, Student Creates SPEAK UP PSA

May 30, 2006

Sarah Hitchcock, an 8th grade student at Olive Peirce Middle School in Ramona, CA, created a public service announcement for the SPEAK UP Campaign. To learn more about Sarah and her project, read her Real Story.

Sarah is one of PAX's incredible spokeskids across the country helping to inform and educate their peers about the lifesaving 1-866-SPEAK-UP hotline for students to anonymously report weapon threats at school. Student leadership is vital to spreading the word about the hotline and to preventing violence in schools. Thanks to the efforts of Sarah and other spokeskids, the 1-866-SPEAK-UP hotline has now received more than 13,000 calls.

Have you created your own SPEAK UP PSA, poster, radio ad or any other outreach materials? If so, we would love to see them and possibly post them on our website alongside the work of other student leaders. Email speakup@paxusa.org with your story and a copy of your SPEAK UP-related creation.
